Being: Conscious, mortal existence; life.

Every month we welcome two families, two people, two voices to share their stories in whatever way they chose. We hope that you find joy in their daily lives, and their simple habit of just being.

::::::::::::

Good morning, my child, my love. You’re up so early! Shall we go for a walk? Just us two. No need to get dressed. Indeed, jammies are perfect for this time of day. Throw on your jacket and pull on your boots. Away we go…

The chickens are still tucked into their coop. Open the door and watch them rush out, racing free in all directions. Where is this crew headed? Let’s follow them along. Ah ha! The compost piles, loaded with worms.

On guard! Here is the rooster, come to watch over the hens. He refuses to be left behind.

The Sun is rising! Hello! Good morning!

How about a visit to the pigs? Would you like that? Stop! Look! Here – just here on the gate. Look what a spider built in the night!

The pigs have already had their morning feed. With tummies full, they’re resting in the thicket. But they know we’re here. They’re awake. Can you hear them? They can hear you!

So many pigs. Hello! Good morning! How did you sleep? In a big warm pile of pigs, no doubt!

The Sun is rising higher and brighter, burning off the morning mist, warming the dew-soaked grass, glinting off ears and snouts.

So much rain lately! Enough to soak the ground and make great muddy squishes and squelches under a small boy’s boots.

Higher yet, the Sun’s light changes moment by moment. And the farm is awake, another new beginning.

Will you walk with me again tomorrow, my child, and help me greet the day?

This month we welcome Sophie to the blog as a guest contributor.  You can visit Sophie in her own internet space, The Joy of Farming, where she writes about her life as a farmer, wife and mother. You’ll notice that Sophie’s photographs are especially lovely, and we are so happy to have her sharing them with us this month as a part of the Being series.
